The Epsilon Mu chapter of Kappa Sigma was chartered November 29,
1948, becoming the 115th chapter. It received its bid to colonize on
April 26, 1948. Before becoming a chapter of Kappa Sigma, the name of
the local fraternity that colonized was Delta Theta. It was founded in
May, 1946, and was located at 2838 E. 8th and Evanston (the present day
location of the Shaw Alumni Center). The house remained there until
1952, when it moved to 3131 E. 7th street. The new house, which was
built solely by Kappa Sigmas cost $54,000.
The house has produced some famous and well known alumni: Steve
Rogers, ex?pro pitcher; Gene Iba, head basketball coach of Baylor;
Gailard Sartain, who has a performed regularly on "Hee Haw" since 1972
and appeared in the movie "Mississippi Burning, and Fried Green
Tomatoes." Another local Alum is Bob Bell, the owner of Bell's Amusement
Park. Brother Mike Babcock was the University of Tulsa Man of the Year
in 1995, and he donated $3 million to the university. EM also boasts
many prominent attorneys, judges and businessmen in the Tulsa community.
Kappa Sigma boasts Victory Party, River Boat, Mardi Gras and
Olympics, in keeping with the tradition of excellence exemplified by all
brothers of Kappa Sigma.
